Market Rasen, the centre of the local community, is a compact market town. The race course, home of the annual Lincolnshire National, is the only one in Lincolnshire. There is a splendid golf course close to Wold View House.

The town centre, now a conservation area, is full of varied architecture and no longer fits Charles Dickens' description of Market Rasen as "the sleepiest town in England".
